Sandra Bullock talks about son, Louis Bardo, during first TV interview since split from Jesse James

Sandra Bullock is moving on.

In her first television interview since divorcing serial cheater Jesse James, America's sweetheart opened up on NBC's "Today" show about her "Cajun cookie" - her 7-month old adopted son Louis Bardo.

Bullock said the adoption process was tedious, but that she wanted to go through the normal process.

"I did not circumvent," the actress said on Tuesday. "I wanted to do everything exactly the same way everyone else did … It was nice to have someone say 'I think you're a fit parent.' "

The starlet, who did not address the divorce, said she had "faith” that she'd end up with the right child. She said she didn't care if her child was a boy or a girl but was thrilled to add a son into the Bullock family.

"We don't have any boys in our family. Boy, is everyone really happy about that. So he's like the crown prince," she said of Louis.

The Oscar-winning actress credited her close friends for keeping the adoption a secret.

"I read something like, how did someone keep a secret, and it's - you know - human beings exist that have integrity that know how to keep their mouth shut. That know the bigger picture, that don't sell out their friends," Bullock said."They know if they screw up they're not coming on the next vacation, I'm not going to babysit their kids. I will cut them, I will take them down," she added.

Bullock and James had begun the initial adoption process four years earlier, but received their child in January. They kept the news top secret until four months later. After the couple's highly publicized divorce, Bullock continued the adoption of Louis as a single parent.

Bullock, 45, conducted the interview from Louis' hometown, New Orleans, at the Warren Eason Charter High School. The "Blindside" star helped raise money for a new health clinic at the school after she "cold-called" school board member

Hardy said the actress, who has a home in New Orleans, would always remain one of The Big Easy's own.

"Don't mess with Sandra,” he said. "You hurt her, you hurt us and you better be ready for a fight."

When (and Why) Adoption Goes Awry

Visions of a loving family — two young children who lived in foster homes for years, given a new start with parents who were determined to give them a better life. It started out well — with newly painted rooms, closets full of new clothes, a new school, new toys and a big sister. Then came months of discipline problems, lack of attachment, violence, stealing, lying and fear.
